Our new Student Council will be revealed later today as voting gets underway in the school this morning. Following the Hustings on Monday, the polling station was opened on Wednesday morning under the watchful eye of the two Independent Adjudicators, Alice and Amelia.
There were queues to get in to get voting but everyone was assured that they would get their chance to vote for the new SC Representatives! They were all staying tight lipped as they left so an exit poll proved to be a fruitless mission for this reporter!
Stay tuned for more updates!
10:43am –
Voting has just finished here at the school. The ballot papers have been packed away and counting will get underway after break. Again, no chat at the door on the way out so very hard to get a sense of who might get in this time. We have some familiar names running and some new faces who are hoping luck with favour them this time! In the 6th class boys race, we have one candidate, but there is a quote which must be reached so nothing is certain!
More updates after a quick cup of tea!
So what are the big promises that the candidates have been making?
A listening ear is probably the most common one here so far, coupled with a friendly face. The return of the pizza sub also came up a few times, as did extra sport in the school. Lots of flowers around the school was also promised, as were a few discos! Whatever happens, we know that the elected representatives will give it their all for the school, and for the pupils they represent!
11:23am –
An eerie silence has fallen over the school as the candidates and voters wait to see what time will the count begin at. Mr O’Reilly is flat out so we won’t put any pressure on him just yet, but we may need to expedite matters soon…………
11:35am –
Voting has begun here in Scoil Eoin Báiste. To be fair to the candidates we will defer posting any results until all the votes have been counted and verified, but already we can see that there will be some new faces on the the Council…………….
11:44am – Counting is underway in the count centre and thankfully, due to very legible handwriting and accurate spelling, this won’t take too long. We expect some results around midday. We will announce the results in the classrooms first……………..
12:12pm –
So we have some results. Mr O’Reilly took to the intercom a few short minutes ago to announce the results of the big vote.
Our new Student Council Reps are:
1st and 2nd class – Daragh and Erin
3rd and 4th class – Jack, Katelyn, Hollie and Kyle
5th and 6th class – Tiarnach, Tara M, Zach and Rachel
Well done to everyone. We hope to get a photo later as well as some comments, but for now, I’ll sign off on what has been such an exciting day in SEB. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward!
